VITA - Volunteer Income Tax AssiStance

The 911ºÚÁÏÍø Business Department is proud to offer Free tax preparation services to the Berkshire County Community.  The VITA tax Center operates Monday and Wednesdays from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and is in Suite 102, on the first floor of Murdock Hall.  

Student volunteers undergo rigorous training, become IRS certified, and work under the supervision of Professor Tara Barboza, CPA, EA. All information is confidential. If you are interested in free tax services, please contact Habitat for Humanity at (413) 442-3181 to find out if you qualify or schedule an appointment. Return clients may schedule their appoints online at . 

Drop-offs will be accepted during VITA's hours of operation. 


Our program offers in-person tax appointments in addition to drop-off services. You can expect your appointment to last 60 - 90 minutes based on complexity. Remember to bring all your documents including: 

  • Social Security Cards for all persons included on the return 
  • Tax documents such as W-2s, 1099s, and 1098s 
  • Your photo ID.

To check the status of your personal income tax refund, you’ll need the following information: 

  • Tax year of the refund 
  • Your Social Security number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)
