My training is in American Cultural Studies with a focus on critical race theory, US immigration history, and Latinx studies. My teaching interests focus on the study and advocacy for racial and social justice, including immigrant and refugee rights. I encourage my students to think beyond 鈥渃ommon sense鈥� or traditional ways of thinking while promoting a bridge between theory and practice. I am an affiliate faculty in Women鈥檚, Gender and Sexuality Studies and the advisor for the minor in Critical Ethnic Studies.
At 911黑料网 I am honored to serve as: President of the faculty association; as an Internal Review Board member; Co-Director of the Honors Program; and as founding director of the Critical Ethnic Studies Minor. I am a member of the American Studies Association and the Latinx Studies Association.
My research interests include media and cultural studies, race, ethnicity, new racism, and immigration.
